SiTune and MixComm collaborating to develop 5G mmWave solutions
SiTune Corp of San Jose, CA, USA (an RF and mixed-signal system-on-a-chip developer for 5G wireless transceivers and broadcast receivers) and fabless semiconductor company MixComm Inc of Chatham, NJ, USA (the ‘mmWave Antennas to Algorithms’ pioneer) are collaborating to develop 5G millimeter-wave reference designs. These solutions will be based on SiTune’s IceWings RF transceiver and MixComm’s mmWave solutions including the SUMMIT2629 beam-former front-end IC and the ECLIPSE3741 Antenna-in-Package (launched in mid-July).
Customers should be able to develop systems that maximize performance and thermal efficiency but with an optimal bill of materials and fast time to market. Initial reference designs from the two firms will be suitable for 5G O-RAN infrastructure such as small cells and customer premises equipment.
“SiTune’s Hardware Intelligent Circuits (HIC) technology enables the most energy-efficient RF transceivers in the industry,” claims the firm’s chief technology officer Dr Marzieh Veyseh. “IceWings 5G RF transceiver is sampling now to OEMs and ODMs across the 5G ecosystem to rapidly develop cost- and energy-efficient solutions,” he adds.
“Reference designs that combine SiTune’s IceWings transceivers and MixComm’s millimeter-wave portfolio enable customers to target FR1 and FR2 in a unified solution,” says MixComm’s co-founder & CTO Dr Harish Krishnaswamy. “The combination of MixComm and SiTune offers customers deep expertise from the millimeter-wave layer to the MAC layer, greatly simplifying millimeter-wave deployments,” he reckons.
“SiTune is an ideal partner to help reduce the complexity and time to market for 5G solutions,” comments MixComm’s CEO Mike Noonen.
Reference designs from this collaboration will be made available in second-half 2021.
