WDS launches GaN pulsed power amplifier
WDS Radar of Evergreen, CO, USA is introducing a high-density gallium nitride (GaN)-based pulsed power amplifier (operating in S, C and X radar bands, single- or dual-polarization) for pulsed radar, electronic countermeasures (ECM), electronic warfare (EW) and phased-array radar applications.
The amplifier features patented methodologies that have eliminated waste heat and the need for bulky heat-sinks, fans or cooling liquids. It measures 12-inches by 12.2-inches by 2.5-inches and has a power-to-weight ratio of 2.8kW per 13.1 pounds typical.
The efficient design also has a minimal primary power requirement, eliminating the need for a large DC power supply. The amplifier has gain of 64.5dB, 0dB drive level, a standard operating duty cycle of 10%, and pulse widths to 300μs.
The scalable, modular design can combine for higher power requirements. On board monitoring includes temperature, duty cycle, current, and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).
