Genesis Photonics orders multiple Veeco MaxBright MOCVD systems

Epitaxial deposition and process equipment maker Veeco Instruments Inc of Plainview, NY, USA says that Genesis Photonics Inc (GPI) of Southern Taiwan Science-Base Industrial Park (TNSIP) has placed a multi-unit order for TurboDisc MaxBright multi-reactor gallium nitride (GaN) metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) systems (launched in February).

Founded in 2002, GPI focuses on providing of GaN-based LED epiwafers and chips. GPI will use the new systems to increase capacity for the production of high-brightness light-emitting diodes (HB-LEDs), which is being driven by applications such as backlighting, lighting, displays, and automotive.

“We have been very pleased with the production-proven performance of Veeco’s K465i MOCVD systems already installed in our manufacturing facility,” comments GPI’s chairman & CEO David Chung. “They helped us to achieve LED brightness higher than the industry average. By now adding Veeco’s new MaxBright systems, we will further lower our LED manufacturing costs, maximize our fab space, and accelerate our productivity,” he adds.

The MaxBright system is reckoned to be the industry’s most productive, lowest-cost-of-ownership MOCVD system available for manufacturing HB-LEDs. Available in a 2- or 4-reactor cluster architecture, the system delivers a productivity gain of up to 500% and a 2.5x increase in footprint efficiency over the K465i system, Veeco adds.
