BridgeLux Inc of Sunnyvale, California, USA has confirmed that on 12 September 2006 it was served a lawsuit filed by Cree Inc and Boston University that alleges infringement of US Patent Numbers 6,657,236 and 5,686,738.
BridgeLux was founded in 2003 as eLite Optoelectronics Inc and supplies LED chips to high-volume solid-state lighting market segments.
"We believe in the importance of respecting the intellectual property rights
of others, just as we expect that others will respect our rights," said
BridgeLux's CEO, Dr Robert C. Walker. "However, we also believe this
lawsuit to be without merit, and we will vigorously defend against the
claims that have been brought."
BridgeLux claims that it developed and introduced the industry's first
high-volume indium tin oxide/indium gallium nitride (ITO/InGaN) power LED
chip and says that it is currently delivering millions of chips every month
to customers worldwide for use in mobile appliances, signage, automotive,
and various general lighting applications.
