RFIC maker Anadigics Inc of Warren, NJ, USA is shipping production volumes of its AWT6314 dual-band CDMA power amplifiers (PAs) for use in a new range of handset models. Anadigics did not disclose the name of its customer, saying only that the PAs are being shipped to the “world’s largest handset OEM”. However, Anadigics did confirm that the ultra-compact AWT6314 will be used in the 6215i handset model.
The 6215i is a clamshell handset manufactured by Nokia; it features two color displays, VGA camera, built-in speakerphone, and voice-dialing. Anadigics says that the 3x5mm AWT6314 PA offers 39% efficiency, 50 mA of quiescent current, and a common VMODE line to simplify the control interface and support single-mode operation up to full antenna power.
Bami Bastani, Anadigics’ president and CEO, said: “Leveraging our RF design and manufacturing expertise, Anadigics has raised the bar in power amplifier performance, integration, and form factor. The selection of Anadigics’ EV-DO power amplifiers for this new CDMA handset validates the performance advantages offered by our products and demonstrates our ability to serve multiple tier-one companies.”
