Aixtron AG of Aachen, Germany says it received an order from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou Region, PR China in Q1/2007 for a Thomas Swan Close Coupled Showerhead (CCS) MOCVD reactor.
Delivered in a 3x2 inch wafer configuration to the university’s optoelectronics research facility, the system will be used in an R&D capacity to grow gallium nitride (GaN) alloys on sapphire and silicon substrates for high-brightness LED applications.
The system will match the university’s needs for the development of heteroepitaxy of nitride-on-silicon for next-generation lower-cost materials for display backlighting applications, says Wang Gang of the State Key Lab of Optoelectronic Materials and Technologies at the university.
