Kotura appoints semiconductor industry veteran as VP of operations

Kotura Inc of Monterey Park, CA, USA, which designs and manufactures application-specific silicon photonic components for communications, computing, sensing, and detection applications, has appointed Wayne White as VP of operations.

“As we broaden our customer base and product portfolio, it was the right time to enhance our team with an experienced operations executive,” says CEO Jean-Louis Malinge. “Wayne has an excellent track record in managing silicon fabs, outsourced manufacturing, and operational excellence.”

Wayne brings more than 30 years of experience in silicon and silicon photonics process development and manufacturing. Previously, he held positions of VP of operations at fabless image sensor provider Forza Silicon, at Luxtera, and at Photobit (later acquired by Micron Technology).

White began his career with Hughes Aircraft as manager of Wafer Fabrication, and later became operations manager for Motorola Semiconductor Products (now Freescale).

*Together with InP-based optical chip and component maker CyOptics Inc of Lehigh Valley, PA, USA, in October Kotura was awarded $5.9m by the US Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Technology Program (ATP) to fund a three-year project for the development of next-generation Terabit photonic integrated circuits (TERAPICS) that use a combination of monolithic and hybrid integration to reduce hundreds of individual components in 100-1000Gb Ethernet systems to less than 10 components. Kotura will develop integrated silicon photonics chips that will serve as the mounting platforms for laser and receiver arrays, as well as providing multiplex and de-multiplex functions.
