RFMD supplies EDGE PA for Samsung’s E250 slider phone

RF Micro Devices Inc of Greensboro, NC, USA says that its RF3159 quad-band linear EDGE power amplifier (PA) module is supporting Samsung’s E250 EDGE slider phone (one of that firm’s best selling handsets). The E250 provides advanced multimedia functionality including a VGA camera, MP3 player, advanced audio distribution profile (A2DP) stereo Bluetooth capability and a 2” color screen.

The RF3159 is a high-linearity quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE PA designed to support EDGE transceivers using a linear transmit architecture, including transceivers made by NXP Semiconductors and Infineon Technologies. Designed to be the final amplification stage in a dual-mode GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile transmit lineup, its gain and linearity lineups enable optimization of the handset transmit chain to meet varying implementations of linearity, efficiency and output power. Fully quad-band capable, the RF3159 operates in the 824-915MHz and 1710-1910MHz bands.

RFMD claims to be the leading supplier of linear EDGE and large-signal polar modulation (LSPM) EDGE power amplifiers. It anticipates that additional tier-one EDGE handsets will feature its linear EDGE PA modules this year.

Also, in late March at the CTIA Wireless 2007 show in Orlando, FL, USA, RFMD announced that it was sampling the RF3161 LSPM EDGE PA module, as well as the RF3203 linear EDGE transmit module (TxM), the availability of which was announced at the 2007 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain in mid-February. RFMD says that it anticipates continued favorable design activity related to its EDGE product portfolio.
