The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), on behalf of the US Department of Energy (DOE), has announced eight selections in response to the Solid-State Lighting (SSL) Core Technology Research and Product Development Funding Opportunity Announcements (Round 3). The total value of the projects is $13.3m.
Product Development funding goes to Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA for the project‘LED chips and packaging for 110 lm/W SSL component’ to establish a technology platform that is capable for scaling into low-cost, high-efficiency commercial luminaires.
Core Technology Research funding recipients include: Yale University (with team member Brown University) for ‘Multicolor, high efficiency, nanotextured LEDs’; Inlustra Technologies (with team member University of California, Santa Barbara) for ‘High-efficiency non-polar GaN-based LEDs’; Carnegie Mellon University (with t eam member University of Michigan) for ‘Novel heterostructure designs for GaN-based LEDs’; and Sandia National Laboratory for ‘Improved InGaN epitaxial quality by optimizing growth chemistry’. Other Core Technology Research funding awards include projects for organic LEDs.
