Enablence Technologies Inc of Ottawa, Canada, which develops fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) transceivers for optical modems, says that its European subsidiary, Albis Optoelectronics AG of Rüschlikon, Switzerland, has made its first customer shipments of gallium arsenide photodiode arrays for use in transceivers that meet the quad small form-factor pluggable (QSFP) standard.
The QSFP standard is a highly integrated four-channel optical transceiver that provides increased port density and total system cost savings when replacing four standard SFP transceiver modules in Ethernet, Fiber Channel and Infiniband applications. The new photodiode offers a bandwidth of 5Gb/s per channel, comes with an optical aperture of 100 microns for easy alignment, and can be assembled using wire-bonding as well as flip-chip soldering.
“The Albis photodiode design library has now grown to more than 30 standard devices which are all readily available,” says Enablence’s CEO Arvind Chhatbar. “This is the first product introduced by the Albis team since becoming a subsidiary of Enablence Technologies [in mid-March] and we see significant opportunities inside the datacom industry for these photodiodes,” he adds.
