Skyworks Solutions Inc of Woburn, MA, USA has unveiled what it claims is the industry's highest-isolation switch with the lowest-loss system performance available for cellular infrastructure (and the first in a series of forthcoming solutions).
Enabled by the firm’s patent-pending sixth-generation pHEMT process, the SKY13286-359LF is a GaAs FET-based high-isolation absorptive switch in a 4mm x 4mm 16-lead QFN with exposed-pad plastic package. Targeted at high-performance, multi-channel systems, it is suited to base-station applications where synthesizer isolation is critical, minimizing the blending of one frequency into the circuitry of another. Skyworks says that its high-isolation switches, which integrate silicon CMOS drivers, also require fewer components, saving board space and allowing enhanced architectures and lower overall system costs. High output-to-output isolation also allows greater flexibility for multiple system designs, the firm claims.
“By leveraging key pHEMT process technologies, our solution gives designers much more freedom in selecting circuit architectures that meet demanding performance requirements for both isolation and insertion loss,” says Stan A. Swearingen, VP and general manager of Linear Products. Skyworks claims several design wins and other customer evaluations ongoing for the rapidly growing cellular infrastructure market.
Skyworks launched its Linear Products portfolio in 2004 to leverage its core analog capabilities into non-handset applications, aiming to create business with longer product lifecycles, sustained revenue profiles and higher profit margins than handsets. The firm plans to introduce over 90 new linear products in fiscal 2007 as it continues to diversify into markets including medical, infrastructure, broadband, automotive and industrial applications.
