Anadigics Inc of Warren, NJ, USA is shipping production volumes of its AWT6223 UMTS/EDGE penta-band power amplifier (PA) module to Samsung, to be incorporated into the SGH-I520 smartphone.
Designed for the European market, the SGH-I520 is Samsung’s first phone to use the Symbian OS Version 9.2 for Internet access. With a sliding design, the handset offers multimedia functions such as a 2.0 megapixel camera, a wide 2.3” QVGA screen, and Bluetooth. Internet content can be downloaded to the SGH-I520 at rates of up to 1.8Mb/sec over WCDMA, HSPA, or EDGE networks.
"We are very pleased to once again partner with Samsung and have our industry-leading 3G penta-band HELP2 UMTS and EDGE power amplifier selected for the SGH-I520 smartphone,” said Bami Bastani, president and CEO of Anadigics.
The AWT6223 incorporates Anadigics' second-generation High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP2) technology, which the company says reduces UMTS average power consumption by up to 50%. In WCDMA and HSPA modes, the PA offers efficiencies of 41% at +28.5 dBm and 21% at +16 dBm. Furthermore, the AWT6223 also includes a fully functional quad-band GSM/EDGE PA, operating in the GSM850/900 bands and DCS/PCS bands in both GSMK and 8PSK modes.
Anadigics’ multi-mode PAs are based on the company's InGaP-Plus technology, which integrates HBT and pHEMT devices on the same InGaP GaAs die.
