WIN opts for Aixtron AIX 2600G3 IC system for production of triple junction solar cells

WIN Semiconductors Corporation ordered an Aixtron AIX 2600G3 IC MOCVD system in Q1/2007. It will be installed in the company’s cleanroom in Kuei Shan Hsiang, Taiwan.

Best known as a manufacturer of GaAs-based microwave integrated circuits, WIN will diversify its business by using the new system to manufacture triple junction solar cells on germanium wafers for terrestrial solar cell applications.

“Our decision for the Aixtron equipment was confirmed by the fact that the major players in the solar cell epitaxy market in Europe are successfully using the Aixtron MOCVD systems,” said an unnamed representative of WIN.

Founded in October 1999, WIN was the world’s first pure-play 6-inch GaAs foundry. Its technologies include: 1μm HBT、2μm HBT、0.5μm pHEMT Switch、0.5μm power pHEMT and 0.15μm pHEMT.
