Finisar demonstrates new optical modules at Japan’s Fiber Optics Expo

At this week’s Fiber Optics Expo (FOE) 2007 in Tokyo, Japan, Finisar Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA is demonstrating a 10Gb/s Ethernet Long-Reach (LR) SFP+ optical transceiver, as well as a new dense wavelength division multiplexing, small form-factor pluggable (DWDM SFP) transceiver that supports L-Band channels, and the latest generation of its 40Gb/s Short Reach 300-pin transponder. All are designed to provide greater flexibility and scalability for high-bandwidth datacom and telecom applications.

The 10Gb/s Ethernet LR SFP+ transceiver is targeted at next-generation applications requiring the emerging SFP+ form factor, and will enable high optical port density for Ethernet switches, core and edge routers, network interface cards and multiservice provisioning platforms (MSPPs). Capable of transporting 10Gb/s Ethernet traffic at distances of up to 10km, the transceivers have a maximum power dissipation of less than 1W, and incorporate Finisar's patented digital diagnostics functionality.

The L-Band DWDM SFP is a pluggable optical transceiver that addresses challenges faced by carriers that have deployed networks with dispersion-shifted optical fiber (which is common in Japan). It offers multi-protocol performance meeting SONET OC-48/STM-16 and Gigabit Ethernet standards over link lengths of more than 80km, and is compatible with the DWDM SFP multi-source agreement (MSA).

The latest generation of Finisar's 40Gb/s Short Reach 300-pin transponder provides very high-speed optical transport with low power dissipation and outstanding link performance, claims the firm.
