Anadigics ramps shipments of WLAN PAs for 802.11n MIMO standard

RFIC maker Anadigics Inc of Warren, NJ, USA is ramping production shipments of wireless LAN power amplifiers that support the upcoming 802.11n MIMO (multi-input, multi-output) standard. The firm says it is supplying several key industry players with single-band and dual-band WLAN PAs based on its InGaP-Plus process technology, including the AWL6153, AWL9925, AWL9929 and AWL6951 for MIMO (802.11n) applications.

Following recent announcements, MIMO applications are expected to ramp quickly as access point and notebook manufacturers accelerate to production. The benefits of MIMO technology include extended range beyond that of the 802.11a/b/g standards and increased data rates that support simultaneous multimedia applications such as high-definition video and voice over internet protocol (VoIP). The benefits of MIMO to Anadigics are multiple transmit chains leading to multiple PAs in each MIMO device, the firm says.

“The deployment of 802.11n MIMO technology expands the WLAN market with such drivers as wireless broadband entertainment in the home,” says president and CEO Dr Bami Bastani. Anadigics’ PAs and front-end ICs (FEICs) are critical enablers, he claims.
