Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has announced the release of the EZBright 700 LED power chip (now shipping in production quantities), the latest InGaN-based blue-emitting chip product based on its flagship EZBright LED platform.
The EZBright platform features a proprietary optical design that delivers an optimal Lambertian radiation pattern with reduced emission losses and high efficiency compared to Cree’s other LED chip platforms. This high-efficiency design scales well with the size of the chip, Cree says. Fitting between the EZ1000’s 980 µm x 980 µm and the EZ290’s 280 µm x 280 µm, the firm claims that the EZ700 is the brightest, most cost-effective LED chip of its size (680 µm x 680 µm), with a typical output of 260mW at 350mA and 440mW at 700mA.
“With the mid-size format EZBright 700, we’re expanding the EZBright line to address a broader range of lighting markets,” says David Davito, director of marketing for optoelectronics. The new chip is targeted at general lighting applications including auto headlamps, streetlights, camera flash, projection lighting, personal lighting and indoor and outdoor display applications. “Cree recognizes the market need for high performance at low cost across a range of lighting applications,” Davito adds.
