According to a recent report by DigiTimes, Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC) expects to triple the capacity of its GaAs foundry over the next 18 months.
In order to meet the growing demand for handsets, the company aims to increase its current weekly capacity of 1,100 4-inch GaAs wafers to 3,000 by the close of 2007. AWSC sees the handset market continuing to grow over the next five years, said the report.
DigiTimes reported the company as saying: “ . . . the GaAs sector had been in the doldrums for more than a year due to over-supply until the second half of 2005, when demand began picking up. Currently, there is a supply shortage,”Visit: http://www.digitimes.com
