Microsemi Corporation of Irvine, USA says it is shipping production volumes of its advanced wireless LAN (WLAN) power amplifiers (PA) designed into draft 1.0 802.11n WLAN platforms from Atheros Communications.
The LX5511 is a 2.4GHz PA, based on InGaP HBT technology. It supports the new-generation Atheros XSPAN AR5008E-3NG draft 802.11n WLAN chipset, as used in Atheros-based reference designs for access point, card bus, PCI and PCI-Express WLAN applications.
"We were extremely pleased to be included in the latest Atheros XSPAN 802.11n chipset reference designs and to support their OEM customers in volume production," said James J. Peterson, Microsemi president and CEO.
The new PA is a two-stage MMIC device, 3mm square, with active bias and output prematching. It operates from a single low voltage supply of 3.3V, and with 26dB power gain between 2.3 and 2.5GHz offers a low 90mA quiescent current.
