Packaged LED lighting product prices slide slightly as effects of trade war yet to be seen
In its latest price report, LEDinside (a division of TrendForce) reveals that prices for some packaged high- and mid-power LED products in the Chinese market continued to fall in May.
“LED package prices continued to fall in May in response to falling chip prices, but the escalating US-China trade war has yet to exert an effect on LED package prices,” says TrendForce analyst Terri Wang. “Suppliers, sitting on the fence, are expected to continue price adjustments according to changes in upstream chip prices,” she adds. High-power 5050 and 7070 product prices fell by 1-4%, while mid-power 2835 product prices fell more visibly by 4.7% and 5.1% for 0.2W and 0.5W products, respectively.
For automotive packaged LED products, the automotive market remained unenthusiastic and sales continued to slide in first-half 2019. Prices for mainstream automotive packaged LED products were trimmed downwards by 2-3%. Automotive LED revenues for top manufacturers like Osram and Lumileds either trended flat or declined slightly in 2018, while both Nichia and Stanley saw revenue growth due to the stellar performance of the Japanese vehicle market in the same year, notes LEDinside.
