Seoul Semiconductor executive Mark McClear delivering plenary address at Strategies In Light

South Korean LED maker Seoul Semiconductor Co Ltd says that, at the Strategies in Light 2018 conference & exhibition in Long Beach, CA, USA (13-15 February), its president for the Americas, Mark McClear, is delivering a plenary address on ‘The LED Supply Chain – Past, Present and Possible Future’ (14 February, 11-11.30am).
“There have been many changes behind the scenes in the LED supply chain in recent years to enable companies to deliver advances in technology at lower costs,” says McClear. “But the future may not be as linear and stable as the past,” he adds. “As LED suppliers change leadership and ownership, they are seeking out new and creative ways to advance their technology roadmaps, while still delivering value for their shareholders.”
In booth #306 at Strategies in Light, Seoul Semiconductor is featuring its SunLike Series natural-spectrum LEDs, which are based on new technology that produces light closely matching the spectrum of natural sunlight. Introduced last June, the SunLike Series was co-developed by combining Seoul Semiconductor’s LED chip technology with the TRI-R phosphor compound of Toshiba Materials.
Also on display are Seoul’s WICOP (Wafer Integrated Chip On PCB) package-less LEDs, which are reckoned to represent a two-generation advance in LED technology, with performance that delivers what is claimed to be best-in-class color over angle, 10% higher brightness and 20% lower cost than conventional 3535 high-power LEDs, enabling smaller, lighter, less expensive luminaire designs.
Seoul is also showcasing its NanoDriver and MicroDriver Series of LED drivers – which feature a unique power topology that results in smaller size, increased efficiency and lower costs – with power densities up to 10x higher than conventional LED drivers. Rated for 16W and 24W, the NanoDriver Series are claimed to be the smallest LED drivers, at just 13.5mm2. The MicroDriver Series miniature LED drivers are designed for LED lighting fixtures with luminous flux of 900-2400lm, with a miniature package that enables the integration of control circuitry with the external driver, making it possible to mount more light sources on the module or to reduce the size of the module.
