nLIGHT’s lasers launching on NASA ICESat-2 satellite

nLIGHT Inc of Vancouver, WA, USA (which was founded in Seattle in 2000 and provides high-power semiconductor and fiber lasers for industrial, microfabrication, aerospace and defense applications) says that its high-power semiconductors lasers are part of the transmitting laser technology that form the heart of NASA’s Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite 2 (ICESat-2), scheduled to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base on 15 September.
ICESat-2 will use a laser altimeter to measure, track and report on changes to the earth's surface. This includes measuring ice-covered poles, taking stock of forests, mapping ocean surfaces and characterizing clouds.
