Advantech Wireless launches second-generation GaN-based 100/125W Ka-band BUCs
In booth 1H2-01 at the CommunicAsia 2017 event in Singapore (23-25 May), Advantech Wireless Inc of Montreal, Canada (which manufactures satellite, RF equipment and microwave broadband communications systems) has launched the SSPB-3010Ka second-generation gallium nitride (GaN)-based 100-125W Ka-band block upconverter (BUC), designed for Ka-band LEO (low Earth orbit) and GEO (geostationary orbit) satellite up-link applications.
The SSPB-3010Ka series comprise integrated units, complete with power supply, phase-locked oscillator, mixer, filter and proprietary cooling mechanism. Intended for outdoor operation, the second-generation GaN-based systems are claimed to be the most advanced GaN-based Ka-band units on the market, providing higher power and linearity, higher reliability and very low spectrum regrowth.
“GaN technology allows us to reach power levels that were not possible before, and to serve customers that are looking for solutions in fast-growing market segments,” says VP business development Cristi Damian.
