Source Photonics demos 53GBaud PAM4 100G single-lambda capability
In booth 3011 at the Optical Fiber Comminications trade show (OFC 2017) in Los Angeles (21-23 March), optical transceiver firm Source Photonics Inc of West Hills, CA, USA, in cooperation with Semtech Corp (a supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for high-end consumer, enterprise computing, communications and industrial equipment), is demonstrating a 53GBaud PAM4 compact receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA) capable of supporting a single-lambda 100G QSFP28.
The demonstration consists of an optical loop back from Source Photonics’ compact 53GBaud transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) using a production-grade electro-absorption modulated laser (EML) and a 53GBaud ROSA built with Semtech’s GN1089 linear transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The combined TOSA and ROSA link supports a loss budget of 5dB and achieves better than 1x10-5 BER over the tested link.
“This is an exciting demonstration pointing to 53GBaud technology being capable to address 100G with a quarter of the optical component count and four times the manufacturing capacity compared to current 100G solutions,” comments Source Photonics’ chief technology officer Mark Heimbuch.
