Finisar launches 100GHz C-band balanced photodetector enabling coherent detection up to 160 Gbaud
Fiber-optic communications component and subsystem maker Finisar Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA has added a new member to its family of high-speed photodetectors. The 100GHz balanced detector (BPDV4121) is said to be a key enabler for the next generation of optical test & measurement equipment, enabling operating frequencies in excess of 100GHz. It is the fastest detector on the market and enables coherent signal detection and characterization up to 160 Gbaud. The new detector is being displayed in booth #2403 at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition (OFC 2017) in Los Angeles (21-23 March).
Designed for next-generation high-bit-rate transmission systems, the new high-speed photodetector provides the ability to measure, characterize and verify performance accurately and in real-time. The ever-increasing baud rates required for coherent transmission require high-frequency optical modulation analyzers, sampling scopes, and real-time scopes to perform the required verification tests. The new detector operates in the C-band, and comes in a hermetic package equipped with a connector suitable for 100GHz+ RF connections. Other key features include high responsivity and low polarization dependent loss (PDL).
The BPDV4121 is sampling now, with general availability later in March.
