Infinera creates Government Advisory Board

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical transport networking systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), has announced the appointment of Roger Baker, Diana Gowen and Henry Sienkiewicz to its newly created Government Advisory Board.

The advisory board has been created to add expert executive perspective on the specific needs of the government sector to enable Infinera to accelerate and enhance its growing success with the US government. The three key government sector telecom leaders have joined the advisory board to support Infinera's future growth in this dynamic and strategic sector.

Roger Baker served as assistant secretary and chief information officer (CIO) for the US Department of Veterans Affairs from May 2009 to March 2013, and as the CIO of the US Department of Commerce from 1998 to 2001. He was most recently chief strategy officer for Agilex Technologies, and has held executive positions at several large government integrators, including executive VP at CACI International and vice president of IT Strategy & CIO at General Dynamics.

Diana Gowen is a senior VP & general manager for public sector at CenturyLink. She was previously the leader of CenturyLink Federal and oversaw the execution and development of CenturyLink's solutions for federal government customers. Gowen was the leader of Qwest Government Services before its acquisition by CenturyLink in 2011. Prior to joining Qwest, Gowen was VP of MCI Government Markets, and president of government solutions for Corvis and Broadwing Communications. In the course of her career, Gowen has been recognized by Government Computer News as Industry Executive of the Year, and was twice named to the 'Federal 100' by Federal Computer Week.

Henry Sienkiewicz is a strategic advisor and author. He was previously a member of the Senior Executive Service assigned to the US Defense Information Systems Agency from May 2008 until the end of June 2013. Most notably, Sienkiewicz served as the agency's chief information officer for two years and as the designated approving authority for three years. In his role as Computing Service's technical director, Sienkiewicz introduced the cloud computing model into the US Defense Department. In 2011, Sienkiewicz was named one of the Top 50 Government CIOs by Information Week. In 2013, he was selected as one of Computerworld's Premier 100 Technology Leaders.

"Delivering mission-critical networks to meet government needs is a priority," says Wray Varley, VP of government sales at Infinera. "We look forward to the guidance and leadership from our advisory board to help shape how the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network will contribute to the success of the US government telecom sector."
