Colt Technology Services deploys Infinera for European Supercore network
Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), says that Colt Technology Services, a provider of network, voice, data-center and managed Cloud services, is deploying its DTN-X packet optical transport networking platform for the upgrade of its European Supercore long-distance network (LDN).
With the DTN-X platform, Colt can support the demand for high-capacity services in Europe more effectively. Infinera's Instant Bandwidth allows Colt to rapidly provision 40G and 100G services to its carrier and enterprise customers while providing highly reliable and scalable services.
Powered by the DTN-X, the European Supercore network extends the benefits of Colt's existing long-distance network. The European Supercore network supports national and international services between the European cities of London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Zurich, Vienna and Dublin. The solution supports up to 8Tb/s of capacity and the ability to provide continued service and revenue growth in the high-bandwidth services market.
"This network upgrade is the latest in a series of investments in our network and will allow Colt to rapidly provision high-bandwidth services to our customer base in Europe," says Zhongmin Guo, VP of strategy and business development, Network Services, at Colt Technology Services. "The Infinera platform allows us to easily scale the network as customer demand increases over time, giving Colt the flexibility needed to effectively support our customers," he adds.
"Infinera is committed to continuing to provide Colt with a solution that automates, converges and simplifies its optical transport network to reliably deliver advanced services," says Chris Champion, senior vice president, EMEA.
The DTN-X platform delivers capacity of 100Gb/s coherent transmission today via 500Gb/s super-channels, with a forward-scale design to support terabit super-channels in the future. The high-capacity super-channels are enabled by 500Gb/s photonic integrated circuits developed and fabricated by Infinera, which claims to be the only supplier delivering 500Gb/s of transmission capacity from a single line-card. PICs enable the DTN-X platform to integrate dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) super-channel transmission with up to 12Tb/s of non-blocking optical transport network switching, providing seamless scaling as traffic requirements grow in the future.
