Excelitas launches X-Cite 120LEDmini for fluorescence applications

Excelitas Technologies Corp of Waltham, MA, USA, which provides customized optoelectronics to OEMs, has launched the X-Cite 120LEDmini – a compact white light LED source for fluorescence imaging applications. Through direct coupling, it provides efficient optical output, exceptional uniformity, and the highest-performing coupling optics available, it is claimed.

The X-Cite 120LEDmini offers broad-spectrum coverage ranging from 370nm to 700nm with high excitation power for popular fluorophores including DAPI, GFP, mCherry and Cy5. Through USB, TTL or manual control via speedDIAL (a standard component included with the system), the X-Cite 120LEDmini offers convenient control options for any instrument configuration, from basic to fully automated operation.

"Utilizing the latest in LED technology, we have combined efficient transmission optics and thermal management within a compact size to deliver an ideal solution with high performance and thermal stability at an attractive price point," reckons Oliver Scheuss, VP of solid-state lighting and UV/microscopy.

The X-Cite 120LEDmini is a highly efficient, environmentally friendly solution with zero mercury disposal and low energy consumption, says the firm. An instant on/off capability minimizes photo-bleaching and photo-toxicity in specimens while offering a compact solution for minimum space requirements. With zero consumables and virtually no maintenance, the X-Cite 120LEDmini allows researchers to focus on their research, the firm says.

The X-Cite 120LEDmini is on display in booth #B1.103 at LASER World of Photonics 2015 in Munich, Germany (22-25 June).
