Skyworks launches low-profile 5GHz 802.11ac/n front-end module for mobile platforms
Skyworks Solutions Inc of Woburn, MA, USA (which manufactures analog and mixed-signal semiconductors) has launched a highly integrated 5GHz 802.11ac/n front-end module (FEM) for mobile platforms including smartphones and tablets.
The fully matched SKY85716-11 FEM incorporates a 5GHz single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) transmit/receive (T/R) switch, a 5GHz low-noise amplifier (LNA) with bypass and a 5GHz power amplifier (PA).
Direct-to-battery 3.0-5.0V operation eliminates the need for an LDO (low dropout) regulator, reducing overall bill-of-material costs. The SKY85716-11 meets tough linearity targets, with 17.5dBm MCS7 and 16dBm MCS9 output power at 3.3V. An integrated power detector with 20dB of dynamic range is included to provide closed-loop power control within the system. The FEM also features a high-power mode and power-save mode to provide further current saving when operating under lower power.
Provided in a compact 16-pin 2.3mm x 2.3mm x 0.33mm quad flat no-lead (QFN) package, the 0.33mm height makes the device suitable for low-profile SiP (system-in-package) modules in embedded systems.
Samples and evaluation boards are available. Pricing depends on quantities.
