Advanced Photonix announces 100G design win in China
Picometrix LLC, a subsidiary of Advanced Photonix Inc (API) of Ann Arbor, MI, USA (which designs and makes APD, PIN, and FILTRODE photodetectors, HSOR high-speed optical receivers, and T-Ray terahertz instrumentation), has been chosen to supply its CR-100D receiver for the 100G optical transport network equipment of a leading Chinese telecoms equipment and networks solutions provider. Initial orders total nearly $500,000, with potential revenue of over $2m for the next fiscal year.
“This is part of the much anticipated ‘China hockey stick’ that is expected to be the world’s largest 100G backbone deployment to date,” says Robin (Rob) Risser, general manager of Picometrix and chief operating officer & director of API. “This 100G DP-QPSK design win with a major tier-1 China-based telecom OEM is a validation that our efforts to penetrate the China OEM market are beginning to bear fruit and further enhances our position as a leading supplier in the rapidly growing 100G markets,” he adds. “The 100G markets are in the early adoption phase, and are expected to grow rapidly over the next five years to become the dominant modulation format deployed in the long-haul and metro markets in order to support the wireless and wireline bandwidth demands of high-definition video and audio.”
Using patented technology, the CR-100D’s sensitivity plays a role in reducing total system costs, says the firm. The CR-100D is part of a suite of high-speed optical receivers that Picometrix provides to cover every modulation scheme for telecom systems. Its product range includes 10G, 40G and 100G client-side and line-side optical receivers targeted at the long-haul and metro markets, and photodiodes targeted at the high-volume access and fiber-to-the-home (FTTx) markets.
