Infinera forms cloud networks group
Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), has formed a cloud networks group to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing data-center market. To lead the group, Infinera has hired Stuart Elby Ph.D., who will serve as senior VP of cloud network strategy and technology.
Dr Elby has more than 30 years of diverse telecoms, video and data-center expertise. Prior to Infinera, he served as VP & chief technologist of Verizon Labs, where he was responsible for developing Verizon’s technology vision and target network architecture to support emerging products and services. In this role, he had a significant influence on the network architecture and development of Verizon’s platforms for metro and long-haul networks, including the firm’s cloud and digital video services. Elby led the design, development and launch of cloud services platforms for Verizon Digital Media Services and managed the specification and design of multiple core services platforms including cloud and API secure gateway. Elby has a bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester and received a MSEE and Doctorate in Telecommunications from Columbia University. He serves on the advisory boards of several university, government and industry consortia.
“As cloud services play a larger role in the telecommunications infrastructure, Infinera is committed to focusing on the specific requirements of cloud networks and delivering technologies that enable the continued evolution of this fundamental market shift,” says CEO Tom Fallon. “Elby brings invaluable industry experience that will help accelerate Infinera’s ability to win in this market," he believes.
“As cloud services continue to grow, the importance of optimizing solutions for the cloud network market becomes a high-growth opportunity,” comments Elby.
