Infonetics names Infinera as top optical transport vendor

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), says that market research and consulting firm Infonetics Research has ranked it as the top optical transport vendor in 2013. “With very high ratings for technology innovation, reliability, and service and support, Infinera received the highest overall score for optical transport equipment,” says Infonetics.

Infonetics’ new Optical Network Hardware Vendor Scorecard profiles, analyzes and ranks the 10 largest global vendors of optical transport equipment. In the report, Infinera emerges as the number-one ranking optical transport equipment provider in 2013.

Vendors were evaluated based on seven metrics including market share, market share momentum, financial stability, packet-optical intensity, technology innovation, product reliability, and service and support.

“The market for optical transport equipment is $12bn annually, nearly as large as the market for service provider routers and switches,” says Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst, Optical, Infonetics Research. “As the highest-scoring company in the Optical Vendor Leadership Scorecard, Infinera emerges as top optical vendor in 2013. When customers are asked what Infinera does well, they mention ease of operation, ease of provisioning, and high reliability,” he adds.
