Bridgelux selected by Bloomberg New Energy Finance as 2014 New Energy Pioneer
Bridgelux Inc of Livermore, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of solid-state light sources for lighting applications, has been selected as a 2014 New Energy Pioneer winner by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The winning companies were recognized at the seventh annual Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit in New York City.
Now in its fifth year, the Bloomberg awards program selects ten New Energy Pioneers each year. This year the independent panel of industry experts selected the winners from many applicants worldwide, assessing them against three criteria: innovation, demonstrated momentum and potential global scale.
“The transition to LED lighting presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to dramatically reduce energy consumption worldwide,” says David Connors, VP of marketing and corporate development. “For the last 12 years, Bridgelux has dedicated itself to delivering the innovation and technology required to enable this powerful transition.”
Bridgelux has developed LED lighting products for general illumination. Since 2009, Bridgelux has provided chip, light source and sub-systems products across commercial and industrial, outdoor and consumer product segments worldwide. Innovations include:
- GaN-on-silicon, which can reduce the cost of LED chips by more than 50%, expand the potential manufacturing footprint for LEDs, and enable radical package and system-level innovations. Toshiba and Bridgelux will bring GaN-on-Si products to market later this year.
- Vero packaging technology, which boosts lumen output of LED light fixtures by over 20%, simultaneously increasing performance and reducing cost. The Vero Series is backed by the first 10-year warranty for chip-on-board LED products.
- The Outdoor Lighting Module (OLM, launched in March) integrates optics, LEDs and other components into a single package to produce weather-resistant lights outdoor and industrial applications. The OLM can accelerate product development time by 3-6 months and reduce the cost of manufacturing outdoor lights by 10-20%, reckons the firm.
Bridgelux says that it will next demonstrate how integrating wireless smart controls directly onto its LED packages can further reduce energy consumption and accelerate customer adoption.
