Daylight Solutions licenses mid-IR technology to Corning

Daylight Solutions Inc of San Diego, CA, USA, which makes molecular detection, spectroscopic imaging and high-power illumination systems based on quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) for markets including defense, scientific research, medical diagnostics, and industrial applications, has entered into a license agreement with Corning Inc for access to Daylight’s patented mid-infrared technology. Daylight holds 19 fundamental patents with an additional 27 patents pending.

“The licensing of our technology by Corning illustrates the significance of Daylight’s patent and IP position in the mid-infrared solution space,” says president & chief operating officer Paul Larson. “We’ve managed more than $85m to develop technology and deliver system-level solutions to our customers,” he adds. “The advancement and protection of our IP position remains a critical strategy for the company.”

Daylight indicated that it is currently in discussion with several other industry leaders over the licensing of its mid-infrared technology.
