Seoul Semiconductor launches ‘Acrich for Trees’ web-based environmental campaign
South Korean LED maker Seoul Semiconductor is launching the global campaign ‘Acrich for Trees’ via its web-site to actively encourage the use of eco-friendly AC LED bulbs using the firm’s Acrich LEDs. Of participants accessing the firm’s website and subscribing to the Seoul Semiconductor Newsletter over 11-30 April, 1000 subscribers will be chosen to receive a LED bulb or a LED desk lamp. Winners will be announced on May 1st via the website and e-mail.
Results based upon Seoul Semiconductor’s internal study and investigation comparing (1) a conventional 60W incandescent light bulb, (2) a normal 8W DC LED bulb and (3) an 8W Acrich AC LED bulb show annual CO2 emission of 56kg, 15kg and 8kg, respectively, and the number of trees required correspondingly for compensating for CO2 as 19, 5 and 3, respectively.
The firm says that, by using an Acrich LED light bulb six hours per day, annual carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by about 48kg compared to using a normal 60W incandescent light bulb. The absence of an AC/DC converter (typically used in DC LED bulbs) reduces energy loss further, saving two more trees compared with a DC LED light bulb, it is claimed.
“This solution [the Acrich LED] is more environmental friendly because it does not require an AC/DC converter,” says Marten Willemsen, global marketing VP. “By eliminating the drawback of an analog converter’s short durability, the life expectancy of LED light bulbs has dramatically increased,” he adds. “This global campaign encourages people to use eco-friendly LED bulbs with Acrich LEDs to save more trees than conventional DC LED bulbs.”
