SoloPower previewing flexible CIGS thin-film PV technology at Italy’s SolarExpo
SoloPower Inc of San Jose, CA, USA, which makes thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) photovoltaic (PV) cells and lightweight flexible solar modules using a proprietary roll-to-roll electro-deposition process, says that it is previewing its next-generation technology at the 13th annual Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation International Exhibition and Conference (SolarExpo) in Verona, Italy this week (9-11 May).
SoloPower targets commercial and industrial rooftop applications, and Rob Campbell (senior VP, global sales) describes Italy as one of the leading countries for solar. “Our customer-focused solutions - powerful, lightweight, flexible - can be easily installed where traditional modules cannot,” he adds. “We can easily cover 90% of roof surface area, helping maximize energy efficiency while delivering the attractive total installed cost for our customers.”
The SolarExpo follows news in March that former US presidential candidate General Wesley K. Clark (USA, Retired) had joined SoloPower’s board of directors as an independent director, and that the firm’s next-generation panel had achieved an aperture area efficiency of 13.4%, a record for flexible CIGS-based modules. SoloPower is also constructing and hiring for its new high-volume manufacturing headquarters in Portland, OR, which will begin commercial production later this year. The firm’s operations in Portland are ultimately expected to have a capacity of 400MW and employ 450 people.
