Cree launches LED linear luminaire for retail and industrial lighting

Building on its CR Series LED Troffer, LED chip, lamp and lighting fixture maker Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has launched the CS Series LED Linear Luminaire for low-bay lighting applications, delivering a fast payback estimated at less than 2.5 years (compared with an industrial 4-lamp T8 fluorescent linear fixture of comparable light output, for a typical grocery retail space of 125 units, 24-hour per day usage, $0.11kWh energy costs, and relamp maintenance).

The new high-efficacy suspended linear luminaire uses 40-50% less energy than comparable linear fluorescents and delivers luminous efficacy of up to 120 lumens per watt, a color rendering index (CRI) of 90, and lifetime of 75,000 hours. Featuring Cree MicroMixing Optics, the firm says that the CS Series brings a combination of performance, aesthetics, optimal light distribution and affordability to grocery stores, retail, showrooms, schools, offices, warehouses and light industrial environments.

The CS Series is designed for low maintenance and long life, lasting up to 3-4 times longer than standard fluorescents. The new luminaire introduces what is described as a simple yet highly efficient optical design approach that integrates an upward-facing LED light strip with Cree TrueWhite Technology and an ultra-lightweight upper reflector, featuring all-new Cree MicroMixing Optics for precise optic control. The CS Series comes standard with 0-10V dimming control to 5% and features a 7-year warranty.

“Businesses no longer have to choose between color quality and savings and no longer have to suffer the poor performance, toxic mercury and hazardous disposal expense inherent with fluorescent lighting,” says David Elien, VP, Cree Lighting. The color quality and visual impact of the CS Series suits large retailers and industrial users, he claims.

Cree MicroMixing Optics are formed from thousands of miniature impressions imprinted on the highly reflective polymer material. Unlike direct-view LED solutions, this multi-faceted pattern blends and softens the intense light and re-directs it with precise control and color mixing. The result is balanced white light with optimal distribution within the desired area.

The CS Series LED Linear Luminaires are made in the USA and sold through Cree lighting sales channels, with sample quantities targeted for availability in May.

The CS Series is being demonstrated at Cree’s lighting booth 3008 at the Lightfair International trade fair in Las Vegas (9-11 May).
