GigOptix ramps production of single-channel driver for 40G and 100G optical systems
GigOptix Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (which supplies semiconductor and optical components) says that its GX6255, a surface-mounted 8Vpp Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) single-ended driver designed for use in both 40G RZ-DQPSK and 100G DP-QPSK metro and long-haul transponders, is now ramping to mass production with orders from Asian tier-1 telecom customers.
The GX6255 is a low-power, compact, surface-mounted technology (SMT) MZM driver capable of driving 8Vpp at up to 32Gb/s. It typically dissipates about 1.6W of power with 7.5Vpp output. The device is designed to be fully compliant with industry-standard single-drive 40G RZ-DQPSK and 100G DP-QPSK modulators and meets all the telecom qualification spec demands. Market research firm Ovum said in a recent report that it expects a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 107% for the 100G market and more than 40% for the 40G market.
