Flexible CIGS PV maker Global Solar Energy seeking investors

Global Solar Energy Inc of Tucson, AZ, USA, which makes flexible copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic cells and modules for applications ranging from lightweight portable solar chargers and traditional glass solar modules to building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products, has engaged FTI Consulting Inc’s investment banking subsidiary FTI Capital Advisors LLC (FTICA) – a member of securities regulator FINRA/SIPC - to pursue new investor participation. An investment could lead to partial or total change in ownership and control of the firm. Global Solar will consider opportunities for its operations in both the USA (Tucson) and the EU (Berlin, Germany).

Global Solar has 75MWp of installed thin-film PV production capacity in the USA and EU. The firm sells its products into specific applications such as weight-restricted roofs, integrated building products, military markets and various emerging applications. It currently supplies interconnected solar cells for the DOW POWERHOUSE Solar Shingle roofing product line.

“Global Solar’s owners have accomplished their plan of developing leading CIGS thin-film technology and being the first company to reach commercial-scale production,” says CEO Dr Jeffrey Britt. “The time has come to consider financial alternatives that will help enable the company to reach its strategic objectives,” he adds.

“The process offers new investors an opportunity to participate in the fastest-growing segment of the solar industry - flexible thin film,” continues Britt. “Global Solar is differentiated from the broader solar industry as its products are specially designed to target high-growth, niche markets that require flexible, lightweight solar solutions.”

The firm does not anticipate any disruption in production or service to customers during the process.
