Lam CEO Newberry joins Nanometrics’ board
Nanometrics Inc of Milpitas, CA, USA (a supplier of process control metrology systems primarily for manufacturing semiconductors, high-brightness LEDs, data storage devices and solar photovoltaics) says that Stephen G. Newberry, a veteran of the semiconductor capital equipment industry, has joined its board of directors.
Newberry is CEO of plasma etch and wafer-cleaning equipment maker Lam Research Corp of Fremont, CA, USA and is currently a director and vice chairman of its board. He joined Lam in August 1997 as executive VP & chief operating officer and was promoted to CEO in June 2005.
Newberry is also a director of the industry trade association Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). In addition, he is a member of the Haas advisory board, Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley (UCB) and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council, University of California at Davis (UC Davis) Graduate School of Management.
Prior to joining Lam, Newberry was group VP of global operations and planning at the semiconductor industry's largest equipmernt maker Applied Materials Inc of Santa Clara, CA, USA. He is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
“Steve has a track record of creating shareholder value and brings to Nanometrics his extensive experience driving operational excellence,” says chairman Bruce C. Rhine. “He will be an important sounding board for our management team and contributor to our board as we focus on growing the value of Nanometrics in the framework of excellent corporate governance,” he adds.
