Avago launches white HB-LED in durable surface-mount package for streamlined assembly
Avago Technologies has launched a white high-brightness LED in a robust surface-mount (SMT) package that aims to simplifies manufacturing. The ASMT-UWB1 LEDs are available in a plastic leaded chip carrier (PLCC)-2 package encapsulated in a heat-resistant silicone resin, enabling them to operate in a wide range of environmental conditions with high reliability and long operating life, says the firm.
Avago says that the light output of the ASMT-UWB1 LEDs enables reduced component count, cutting overall system costs. This high-brightness performance, along with a wide 120º viewing angle, suits illuminated advertising, backlighting of vending and gaming machines, as well as office automation, electrical appliances and industrial equipment.
The LEDs also feature a low forward voltage, with a maximum of 3.6V, resulting in low power consumption for end-applications.
The firm says that designers are choosing surface-mount LEDs because of their ease of assembly, compact footprint, and manufacturing flexibility, which combine to reduce overall system development costs. The ASMT-UWB1 surface-mount LEDs are packed in EIA-compliant tape and reels for simplified pick and place assembly. Each reel is shipped from a single intensity and tight color bins following the ANSI C78.377-2008 color binning structure to provide better uniformity.
The LEDs are compatible with reflow soldering processes, are also lead-free and RoHS-compliant, and have JEDEC MSL 3 moisture sensitivity and JEDEC HBM 1000V electro-static discharge (ESD) sensitivity.
The ASMT-UWB1 LEDs are priced at $0.21 each in minimum quantities of 2000 pieces.
