GigOptix sampling 14G parallel VCSEL drivers and receiver amplifier arrays for next-gen Infiniband AOCs
GigOptix Inc of Palo Alto, CA, USA, which supplies semiconductor and optical components for high-speed information streaming, is sampling two new chip-sets for short-reach 14Gb/s serial optical interconnects.
Building on the its expertise in providing low-power 40G and 100G parallel short-reach devices, GigOptix now offers 4- and 12-channel 14Gb/s link chip-set solutions for next-generation Infiniband Fast Data Rate (FDR) active optical cables (AOC) operating up to 168Gb/s as well as 40G and 100G Ethernet transceivers. The easy-to-use, compact designs address the datacom, avionics and consumer markets.
The chip-sets consist of a 4-channel HXT5104 VCSEL driver and HXR5104 receiver amplifier chip set and a 12-channel HXT5112 VCSEL driver and HXR5112 receiver amplifier chip set. They are designed to enable ultra-low-power consumption of less than 450mW for a 40G link over 100m as well as to minimize the number of components required to implement a transceiver, resulting in lower costs. The HXT/R5 family incorporates programmable equalization and pre-emphasis circuitry to facilitate various trace lengths in addition to providing full programmable control via fully integrated analog-to-digital convertors (ADC) and digital-to-analog convertors (DAC) through an industry-standard 2-wire interface.
“Having worked closely with our current customer base, we have developed the HXT/R5 series to meet their requirements for reliable, high-performance, low-power and cost-effective solutions,” says Martin Bossard, GigOptix’s director of engineering and general manager for GigOptix-Helix AG. “The new devices integrate more functionality than our previous generation, while dissipating less power with improved performance in terms of eye quality, or optical output, and receiver sensitivity,” he adds.
Samples of the HXT/R5 Series are available with an evaluation board for evaluation with vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and photodiodes (PDs).
