Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium presenting at Intersolar

In a series of presentations at Intersolar North America 2011 in San Francisco, CA, USA (11–13 July), executives from the US Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC) – a $300m partnership between international semiconductor manufacturers’ research consortium SEMATECH of Albany, NY, USA and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany enabling the development of advanced PV-related manufacturing processes – will address solar suppliers, researchers, scientists, policy makers and key industry stakeholders on the importance of a collaborative supply chain in the USA.

Created as part of the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) SunShot initiative, which is designed to reduce the cost of photovoltaic solar energy systems by about 75% over the next decade, the PVMC aims to engage more than 40 companies and organizations from throughout the solar community. Through PVMC, partners SEMATECH and CNSE will spearhead a unique R&D collaboration through which industry, academia and government will accelerate the development, commercialization and manufacturing of next-generation copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin-film PV manufacturing technologies, increasing performance while driving down the cost and risk of bringing them to the marketplace.

As invited speakers at Intersolar North America, PVMC’s president & CEO Dan Armbrust (president & CEO of SEMATECH) and chief technology officer Dr Pradeep Haldar (VP for clean energy programs and professor & head of nanoeconomics at CNSE) will provide first-hand introductions to the PV Manufacturing Consortium and discuss how a collaborative approach can provide significant, positive and sustainable impact on the growth of the US PV industry.

The presentations are as follows:

• Monday 11 July, 2:05pm — Dan Armbrust, keynote ‘Introduction to the PVMC in Support of the DOE Manufacturing Initiative’ in the session ‘Second North American PV Fab Managers Forum’ (Intercontinental Hotel, Ballroom A - Level 5).

• Tuesday 12 July, 9:55am — Pradeep Haldar, presentation ‘Department of Energy PV Manufacturing Initiative – A Path Towards Supply Chain Collaboration in the US’ in the session ‘PV Group and ISES Present: From Fragmentation to Collaboration – Critical Factors in Strengthening the Global PV Supply Chain’ (Intercontinental Hotel, Ballroom A - Level 5).

• Wednesday 13 July, 10:55am — Pradeep Haldar, panel ‘Economic Development Opportunities: Working with Local and State Agencies to Ensure Successful Siting of PV Manufacturing’ in the session ‘Public Policy—Working with Federal, State and Local Government’ (Intercontinental Hotel).
