M/A-COM Tech realigns management structure
M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which manufactures semiconductors, components, and subassemblies for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications) has realigned its management and reporting structure.
Joseph G. Thomas — CEO since March 2009 — is retiring after more than 35 years of service. Thomas has held senior management positions throughout his career with M/A-COM Tech, Cobham Defense Electronic Systems, Tyco Electronics, and others. He also led M/A-COM Tech through key milestones such as its divestiture from Cobham in 2009 and its merger with fabless RF, microwave and millimeter-wave IC firm Mimix Broadband Inc of Houston, TX, USA last year.
As its new CEO, M/A-COM Tech has consequently appointed Chuck Bland (chief operating officer since last June, with responsibility for worldwide business units and operations). Industry veteran Bland has previously served as chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Sirenza Microdevices Inc (a supplier of RF components for wireless and wireline communications applications) and as president & CEO of Vari-L Company Inc (a maker of microwave and RF signal processing components). Previously, he held senior leadership positions at Growzone Inc, Quark Software, and Owens Corning. Bland has a B.S., Accounting & Finance degree from Ohio State University and an M.B.A. from the Sloan School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
“We have aggressive plans aimed at becoming a clear leader in our industry, and we are confident that Chuck’s leadership will prove instrumental to meeting and exceeding our goals,” comments chairman John Ocampo.
Also, Robert S. Donahue (chief strategy officer since August 2009) has been appointed chief operating officer (reporting to Bland), with responsibility for sales, marketing, corporate strategy, worldwide operations, and new business development. Previously, he held leadership positions at Taiwanese GaAs foundry WIN Semiconductors Corp, Hittite Microwave Corp, and Raytheon Company. Donahue has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, as well as an M.S. in Management of Technology from the Sloan School.
“As our global presence expands, it is important that we fill our leadership positions with individuals, like Bob, who have extensive industry experience and a history of delivering outstanding results,” says Bland.
M/A-COM Tech is also increasing the scope of responsibility of VP & general manager Suja Ramnath to include leadership of all market-facing businesses, including all Semiconductor and Automotive businesses. Ramnath has served in leadership roles of increasing responsibility at M/A-COM Tech, Cobham Defense Electronic Systems, and Tyco Electronics since 1998. Most recently, she managed the firm’s RF Semiconductor Business. She was previously a key account manager with RF Micro Devices Inc of Greensboro, NC, USA. Ramnath has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.
“She is a seasoned M/A-COM Tech manager with broad product knowledge and solid market insights,” comments CEO Bland. “Her vision and experience can only help accelerate the progress we have seen at M/A-COM Tech,” he adds. “With our extensive heritage and the new products we have in the pipeline, we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the potential opportunities in our target markets,” believes Ramnath.
