GaN-on-Si epi supplier AZZURRO opens Asia regional office in Taiwan
AZZURRO Semiconductors AG of Magdeburg, Germany has strengthened its customer support reach by establishing a Regional Office in Taipei, Taiwan for its Asian customers.
AZZURRO manufacturer gallium nitride (GaN) epitaxial wafers based on large-area silicon substrates. The epiwafers are used in the power semiconductor industry to build higher-performance transistors and diodes, and in the LED industry they can enable manufacturers to produce inexpensive high-brightness LEDs. The firm says that its technology provides high-quality, crack-free GaN layers on 150mm (and soon 200mm) standard silicon wafers with extremely low bow values, enabling the use of standard semiconductor productions facilities. It reckons that the GaN-on-Si technology, previously not available on large-scale wafers, can trigger a new wave of highly efficient and cost-optimized components for the LED and power semiconductor industry.
AZZURRO says that the increasing dynamic of its customers’ design-in and ramp-up activities has driven a swift decision to open a regional support office, its first outside Germany and Europe. The firm reckons that Taiwan offers the right environment and an excellent location in Asia.
“As customer support in the design-in phase is pivotal to make the customers’ products a business success, a close contact is absolutely necessary,” says Erwin Ysewijn, VP sales & marketing. “With the chosen location in Taipei, Taiwan also the Chinese, Japanese and Korean markets can be reached very quickly within two hours flight time,” he notes.
“AZZURRO’s aim to enable its customers a fast and smooth product introduction to quickly reap the rewards of AZZURRO’s GaN-on-Si technology was the key driver for the move by the company,” continues Ysewijn. “This enables us to better understand and resolve customer challenges in a timely fashion and offer professional solutions, in local language, local time zones and with an experienced management team on the ground.”
