Infinera appoints VP of sales for Asia Pacific
To accelerate its focus on marketing in the Asia Pacific region, Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), has appointed Andrew Bond-Webster as VP of sales for Asia Pacific.
According to data from analyst firm Ovum, the Asia Pacific wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) market totaled $1.9bn in revenue last year, with a forecast annual growth rate of 10% from 2010 to 2015. Infinera says that it has achieved significant success in the region, with major customers including Japan’s largest service provider NTT and leading independent service provider Pacnet (headquartered in Hong Kong and Singapore and active throughout Asia). Bond-Webster will help Infinera to broaden and deepen its focus in this key market.
Bond-Webster has more than 20 years of experience in the terrestrial and satellite telecoms industry across wide geographical markets and industry verticals. Previous experience includes senior sales and marketing roles at technology suppliers and service providers in the Asia region, including Cable and Wireless and Equant Network Services.
“Infinera is the leading player worldwide in digital optical networks,” comments Bond-Webster. “My top priorities are to create further value for our existing customers, take advantage of new business opportunities and establish a good network of partners to help facilitate our growth. My goal is to drive and execute a business strategy that will help Infinera achieve sustainable long-term revenue and margin growth across the region,” he adds.
“Operators in the Asia Pacific region face the challenge to achieve faster and more cost-effective networks, and Infinera’s solutions have the exemplary product quality and the digital features that can deliver competitive advantages to customers in the region,” reckons Ron Martin, senior VP of worldwide sales.
Based on the Digital Optical Networks architecture, Infinera’s optical systems deliver a range of digital features and functionalities, including digital reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) capabilities, Bandwidth Virtualization to support the deployment of bandwidth to deliver any service between any two points on the network, and end-to-end digital OTN (optical transport network) services. The Digital Optical Networks paradigm enables users to build fast, flexible and scalable networks, and achieve superior economics, the firm claims.
