BC Systems Inc of Setauket, NY, USA, which designs and manufactures switching and linear power supplies, power control products and solid-state RF power amplifiers, has introduced the Model RF-30001 compact RF power amplifier module, based on gallium nitride (GaN) RF power transistors, that delivers at least 20W CW RF output power over a wide frequency range of 25-1000MHz.
The firm says that its wide instantaneous bandwidth, small size, and light weight suit defense applications ranging from battlefield communications systems to electronic warfare and electronic countermeasures systems. The module measures just 4.5 x 3.0 x 0.6 inches and weighs less than 1lb.
Designed for Class AB operation, the RF-30001 can accept CW, FM, AM and PM modulation types. Its bandwidth ranges from HF through microwave frequencies. It has fast blanking speed of less than 5µs for low standby-power consumption, efficiency of at least 30%, harmonic suppression greater than -15dBc, spurious suppression greater than -60dBc, and it will operate at full power into a VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) of 2.5:1. The operating temperature range is -20°C to +85°C and the non-operating temperature range is -45°C to +95°C.
The RF-30001 can be supplied with an internal directional coupler and output sample port for power monitoring and is specified to be unconditionally stable over all combinations of load and phase. The amplifier also incorporates a DC-to-DC converter designed and manufactured by BC Systems that is matched to the amplifier and provides operation from a 22-34VDC power source.
Circuits are provided for protection from over-current, over-temperature and over-voltage conditions as well as out-of-band operation. The RF-30001 can be customized to meet customer electrical and RF performance requirements, as well as physical configuration and mounting methods.
