SoloPower Inc of San Jose, CA, USA, which makes thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) photovoltaic (PV) cells and lightweight flexible solar modules for rooftop installations using a proprietary roll-to-roll electro-deposition process, is displaying its line of lightweight, flexible CIGS PV module products at next week’s Solar Power International 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (12–14 October).
SoloPower’s line-up of modules includes multiple form factors: the SFX1 (80Wp, 0.3m x 2.9m, 2.3kg/5lbs), the SFX1-i3 (260Wp, 0.9m x 3.1m, 6.8kg/15lbs), and the planned SFX2 (170Wp, 0.3m x 5.8m, 3.6kg/8lbs) and SFX3 (260Wp, 0.9m x 2.9m, 6kg/13lbs).
SoloPower says that its proprietary electro-plating deposition method provides near 100% materials utilization in a low-cost, roll-to-roll process. The firm claims that high materials utilization and low-cost equipment, coupled with high-efficiency cells that have very thin active layers, result in advantages including: the capability to deposit films on large areas as well as in a variety of shapes and forms; continuous processing with high throughput; good compositional control; and minimal waste generation.
