Low cost and optimum efficiency is driving the growth of thin-film PV cells in the overall photovoltaic market, according to the market research report ‘Thin Film PV- Advanced Technologies and Global Market (2008–2015)’ from MarketsandMarkets. The global thin-film photovoltaic market is expected to grow at an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.2% from $3,406m in 2009 to $19,422m in 2015.
Although amorphous silicon contributes the most to the total thin-film PV market, copper indium selenide/copper indium gallium diselenide (CIS/CIGS) is expected to grow at a CAGR of up to 43.9% from 2010 to 2015. Meanwhile, grid-connected power supply applications are expected to have the highest CAGR of 39.1%.
