Oclaro Inc of San Jose, CA, USA, which makes optical components for industrial applications, has announced an expanded line of Clarity filters that extends its filter technology from the telecom and life sciences markets to industrial lasers. By combining multiple beams, the expanded line of filters delivers the increased power required for kiloWatt-level lasers used in material processing applications (such as fiber pump and direct diode laser systems) as well as providing synergies when used with Oclaro’s widely deployed laser diodes. The filters will be showcased at Photonics West 2010 in San Francisco, CA (23–28 January).
“Oclaro has been able to apply its thin-film technology to industrial applications that require high-power and high-performance combined with the reliability and durability that has become a trademark of our Clarity filter product line,” says Yves Le Maitre, executive VP & division manager. The expanded line of filters delivers high-power beam combining capabilities for laser system makers, he adds. In addition, the filters have been developed in conjunction with the firm’s high-power laser diodes produced in Zurich, Switzerland and Tucson, AZ, providing greater integration, compatibility, and ease-of-use when combined synergistically as a complete platform.
Oclaro says that Clarity filters take advantage of its proprietary AED (advanced energetic deposition) high-energy reactive magnetron sputter technology to produce highly reliable hard coated filters. The firm can deliver filters for both wavelength-combining and beam-combining applications addressing a wide wavelength range through coating capabilities that extend from 350nm to 2000nm. In addition, factory automation enables repeatability and large-volume yields.
*Oclaro is also to provide lifetime warranties for all of its Clarity fluorescence filters used in biomedical applications (e.g. clinical diagnostics, drug discovery, gene quantification, blood analysis, and disease detection, which demand very high throughput and accuracy rates while maintaining reliability of the instrumentation). Such filters have been incorporated into thousands of systems.
“Oclaro has had remarkable reliability on its filters and, after achieving zero failures in 65 billion hours of field use, we are very confident to offer our customers the only lifetime warranty in the industry,” says Le Maitre.
