RF Micro Devices Inc (RFMD) of Greensboro, NC, USA has been selected by a manufacturer of smartphones to supply its RF1450 single-pole 4-throw (SP4T) switch into an upcoming multi-feature, dual-band, CDMA smartphone device, due for launch in the second half of 2009. The RF1450 will operate as the antenna switch.
RFMD did not disclose the name of the smartphone manufacturer, but did say that the new design win was the first new business with the customer in several years.
The design win is expected to support RFMD's ongoing efforts at this smartphone manufacturer to secure additional business across multiple RFMD product portfolios, including 3G transmit systems, cellular front ends, cellular switches, GPS LNA/filter modules, DC-to-DC converters and WLAN components.
More than 30% of RFMD's front end revenue in the December 2008 quarter was in support of 3G devices.
Mobile phone shipments to fall 8.3% in 2009
